Spring is a truly miraculous experience. The whole world comes alive after a winter in which the earth, seemingly so dull and cold for months on end, has come alive once more. Little did we know that beneath the cold hard ground, the plants and trees were preparing for rebirth.
Spring gives us hope for rejuvenation in our own lives as well. This is a time to renew the excitement and zest for life that resides in all of us.
Yet here in the spring of 2020, we find ourselves at the centre of a global pandemic crisis, the likes of which we have never seen in our lifetime. This serves as a colossal leveller as well as a stark reminder that the balance of nature is an extremely delicate one, at least as far as humans are concerned. But even in these unsettled times, if you can safely go out into an open space, or are one of the lucky ones and have the luxury of a garden to inhabit, then take the time to enjoy it in all its majestic glory with its magical scent of fresh blooms, and thawing earth, with all its organic splendour.
Time spent in nature is time spent realising that you don't know it all, and that you never will.
Spring always serves a reminder to me as to the inspiration behind my Gin & Tonic Cologne, which captures the very essence of spring in a bottle, giving one the same pleasure as a refreshing sip of Gin & Tonic or indeed putting on a crisp, freshly laundered shirt.
The heart of this fragrance shimmers with zesty, bitter aromatics like lemon and grapefruit peel and juniper berry, but there is also a cool, aquatic note of cucumber floating through the heart, adding a gentle freshness. Breathe it in and let the top notes of juniper berry, grapefruit, lemon zest and cucumber peel transport you to a summer garden.
Please keep safe and well and always take time out to spare a thought for all the key workers across the globe who are putting their lives on the line everyday for the well being of others.
